THE QUICK TAKE

Review purchase verification on the phone and Play account you actually use. A spending alert alone does not prevent a transaction.

Where is the purchase verification setting?

If you want an extra check before a Google Play purchase, start in the Play Store rather than looking for a switch inside a game.

  1. Open Google Play and tap your profile picture.
  2. Open Payments & subscriptions, then Purchase verification.
  3. Look for Verification requirement or Verification frequency.
  4. Read the available choices, select the protection you want and confirm the change.

Google is changing these settings in some regions. Two phones in the Philippines may show different options, so compare what your screen says with Google's linked instructions.

Read what your selected option covers

If you see frequency choices, Always asks for verification for each purchase through Play billing, with exceptions for some payment methods. Every 30 minutes allows further purchases during that window after one verification. A requirement-based menu may instead offer All payment methods.

These controls apply to Google Play billing on the relevant device and account. They do not control a separate website's checkout. Check each device and account you use; do not assume a change on one phone covers another.

A shared phone needs a separate check

Google warns that any fingerprint or face saved on a device can verify Play purchases when biometric verification is enabled. A shared screen-lock code can also authorise purchases where that verification method is selected.

Before lending your phone, ask yourself who can pass the selected check. For example, enabling a fingerprint prompt does not limit approval to you if another person's fingerprint is already enrolled. Review this privately, without sharing passwords or codes. Our account-safety guide covers the wider sign-in precautions.

Does setting a budget stop purchases?

No. Google Play's budget feature monitors spending and provides alerts; going over the budget does not block a transaction. Its currency follows your Play country profile.

Treat an alert as information you must act on. If your aim is to avoid accidental purchases, check the verification settings as well. You do not need to make a purchase to read this guide or decide against spending.

If you need to check what already happened

In the Play Store, open your profile, then Payments & subscriptions → Budget & history. Google also sends order confirmation to the Google account used for the purchase.

Compare the account, item and date before contacting support. Play order history does not include every other Google payment; those may be in the Google payments centre. Keep receipts private and use the official support route linked from your store account.

Changing a verification setting is a precaution for future activity, not evidence that an earlier purchase was reversed. For the distinction between a purchase expense and an in-game balance, read virtual coins explained.
