THE QUICK TAKE
In an ordinary Pusoy front hand, three matching suits or consecutive ranks do not count as a flush or straight. Identify the row before naming its hand type.

First, identify the three-card row
Pusoy divides thirteen cards into a three-card front, five-card middle and five-card back. The ordinary front hand has three possible categories: three of a kind, one pair or high card.
Our Pusoy and Pusoy Dos comparison explains the difference between arranging rows and playing cards away. Keep those game names separate when choosing a reference.
Why do three matching suits not make a flush?
Under the ordinary arrangement rules, neither a three-card flush nor a three-card straight counts in front. Matching suit symbols or consecutive ranks alone therefore do not create those hand categories.
For a paper example, write 4♥, 5♥, 6♥ in a box labelled “front”. All three symbols match, and the numbers are consecutive, but there is no repeated rank. Label this front hand high card. You are classifying an example, not deciding how to arrange a complete hand.
Look for repeated ranks
| Original example | What repeats? | Front-hand category |
|---|---|---|
| 8♣ · 8♦ · Q♠ | Two eights | One pair |
| 5♣ · 5♦ · 5♠ | Three fives | Three of a kind |
| 2♣ · 7♣ · J♣ | No rank repeats | High card |
Read each rank out loud before looking at the suit. If the symbols are unfamiliar, use the rank and suit identification guide. Cover the final column, name the category yourself, then uncover it to check your answer.
A correct label does not validate all thirteen cards
The back must outrank the middle, which must outrank the front. Naming the front category alone does not establish that the full arrangement is valid.
Some agreed variations separately recognise special thirteen-card patterns. Do not confuse those declarations with an ordinary front-hand category. Check the exact rules before applying an exception.
For this exercise, leave the other ten cards aside and write “front-row identification only” on your notes. That makes clear what you checked and what you have not checked. No purchase, App account or opponent is needed.

READ THE LABEL FIRST
The ordinary front row is 9♠ · 10♦ · J♣. Which category fits?
Reveal the explanation
High card. There is no pair or three of a kind. Consecutive ranks do not create a straight category in the ordinary three-card front row.
On a second sheet, write one example with a repeated pair and underline only the two matching rank labels. This small exercise checks whether you can explain your answer, rather than merely remember the last example.
